Italian artist Guido Salimbeni has been working to integrate 3D printed elements into his oil paintings as a way of creating an additional layer of complexity. He works on traditionally prepared canvas with established oil painting techniques. It is his process, however, that is slightly different as when he prepare for the creation of a piece, he works both in sketches and in 3D modeling. When the oil painting is complete, he glues 3D printed pieces, created in a variety of materials, directly to the canvas in order to disturb the light in a different way than is done by the flat canvas, thereby catching the viewer's attention.
