Big Changes at MakerBot and More Layoffs
MakerBot has had a storied history since its founding in 2009. Jonathan Jaglom, the current CEO, has been in his role for six months now, and has been working to understand the company, its team, and its growth potential in that time. Today, October 8, Jaglom and MakerBot have announced a further restructuring of the company in order to focus on the future. The restructure includes an immediate reduction in force of 20% of its global staff, as well as a consolidation of the workforce to center largely in the Brooklyn-based corporate HQ. The team in Brooklyn will continue work on MakerBot's current generation of 3D printers, while the fourth generation will be developed in collaboration with an as-yet-unnamed contract manufacturer. An anonymous source has just shared the following photo with 3DPrint.com, alleging that it came from internal communications at MakerBot.
The source tells us that, while the initial "January 2015" is a typo (noted correctly as 2016 lower on the paper), this illustrates that issues with the Smart Extruder have been known ahead of time.

When your employees leak that kind of info, that says a lot on the general state of mind.
