if part of pet tape rips can i put just a littte over it? or do i have to take it all off and replace it?

Didn't try. What's for sure is it played hell everytime I forgot to avoid that spot until I replaced the whole sheet.

take it all off and replace.

One reason for using inch wide strips - yeah it's more fiddly to cover the whole plate - but quick and simply to replace just the demaged strip.

pet tape is very thin. But if you have double layers it's still thick enough to effect the print.
