3D Printing Company You Kick Ass Gets Funded on Shark Tank

Some of you may recall the company which launched a successful Kicksatrter campaign last year called You Kick Ass, which offered 3D printed heads on action figure bodys for their customers. Well, last evening they were on the ABC series Shark Tank vying for a $100,000 investment at a $1 million valuation. At first things seemed a bit negative as several investors aired concerns over the resemblance that the 3D printed action figures had to the actual person they were supposed to be portraying. But then as it came time to make offers to the You Kick Ass Team, several investors were interested.

Mark Cuban ended up funding the company at their desired valuation. More details on the episode can be found here: http://3dprint.com/64139/youkickass-3d-shark-tank/

Here's a picture from the show last night:

I did see Barbara's point about the resemblance. They really didn't look like the sharks, probably becasue they are built from a 2D photos rather than a scan.

Most of these deals never go through. If this one does Mark just threw 100k down a black hole. There is nothing patentable about their "software". There are multiple companies using similar software including Amazon. They also lied about what they are doing. Only the head is 3d printed, the body is not. If it was the only way they could print 100 of these a day is if they had a 100 printers. Barbara proved to me that she is one of thr brightest sharks there by passing.
