Has anyone got any tips on getting it to export working x3g files ?
I can't get it to turn the hot bed on.

Cura will not export x3g files. You need to slice then save the gcode and use something else to make it an x3g

Suggests a bit of effort to make the pictures readable may have saved me some time.
GPX is not a plugin it is a stand alone programme and in some cases it doesn't work correctly. There is nothing you can do other than get into the source code and change it until it does what you need, properly. That is extremely time consuming, been there, got the T shirt. The author seems somewhat less than interested.

cura and slic3r can be set up to send the gcode directly to gpx.
It's actually exactly what simplify3d does.
Although I never got it to work with slic3r - others have.
I did read there was a plugin for cura - but could never find it.
You need the correct settings in the gpx ini file as well as the right start and end gcode.
There's a thead with the whole setup process in - I couldn't get it to work. But it was probably me ;-)

I gave up on it eventually. It is not just the not talking you have to fix it also does some really stupid interpretations in the conversion and the problems it has change depending on the host computer. You are better off importing to ReplicatorG and making the printer file that way.
