3D printed clothes are coming. Customization can ensure a perfect fit for any body type, and shapes and forms can be personalized for the eventual wearer. While all this is still a little ways off, steps forward are emerging, and the latest comes from Manhattan-based Body Labs. They have just launched BodyKit in beta, the first set of APIs for virtualizing any human body. While 3D printed clothes are one application for BodyKit, it will span across several areas, from fitness to video games. The Instant API, BodyHub API, and ShapeX together comprise the BodyKit platform. For use in creating 3D printed clothing, the team at Body Labs has been working with the Kinematic Dress from Nervous System, and can key that design in to a model of a human body for the right fit.
