When startup company Occipital came out with their Structure Sensor iPad 3D scanner, it quickly became a Kickstarter favorite, raising over $1.2 million. The device runs Skanect software which translates information from a pair of infrared LEDs that drive the same sensor that's included in Microsoft's Kinect and other devices. Now Occipital has released a new version of Skanect, v 1.8, which includes improvements in resolution and color rendering for 3D printing applications.
