Chad Coarsey was born with symbrachydactyly of the left hand, which left him without most of his hand but with a functional wrist. He was approached by classmate Perry Weinthal at Florida Atlantic University and asked if he would like to have a 3D printed prosthetic hand made for him. After the pair tried out several versions of the hand, and experimented with different designs, they decided to team up and launch a non-profit called The Bionic Glove Project and 3D print prosthetic hands for anyone in need. Thier first patient was six-year-old Julian Sanchez who, like Coarsey, was born without his fingers. The most recent recipient of their Bionic Glove was 23-year-old Damba Koroma, who was only five years old she was caught up in the tragic civil war that was raging throughout Sierra Leone and had her arm cut off just above the elbow by rebels. Fifteen years later, the student, now living in Virginia, has her first 3D printed prosthetic. You can read more at 3DPrint.com: https://3dprint.com/129381/the-bionic-glove-project/ ‎
