Drones and 3D printing are both set up to be disruptive technologies; their coming together leads to massive innovation, and several companies are looking to take advantage of this high-tech union. Krossblade Aerospace Systems told 3DPrint.com about their new drone with 3D printed components, modeled after their SkyCruiser concept hybrid vehicle, which brings together several technologies. Their smaller-scale UAV model, the SkyProwler, is a means to test some of their SkyCruiser technology, and the drone is launching on Kickstarter. The SkyProwler has vertical take-off capabilities, can reach high speeds, and ultimately brings together UAV and remote control airplane technologies. 3D printed parts are used throughout the aircraft, including sensing equipment, components of the transformation mechanism, and throughout the prototyping process.
