MakerBot PrintShop - Now Available for iPad
MakerBot announced today that they have released a new app called PrintShop to the iTunes App Store. The new app can be used along with 5th Generation Replicators to easily print and design objects. The software is built for those with any level of 3D printing experience. Whether you are a young child, or elderly adult, the app makes the process extremely simple. It also features 3 additional sub packages, including Ring Maker, Bracelet Maker, and Type Maker. These make the process of customization of rings, bracelets and 3D printed text extremely simple. While this is an interesting app, and right on the target of easy to use, the fact that you are 3D printing a two dimensional object is ironic to me. The prints do not have any curvature over their width or height, as shown by the outline of the USA. You can make it thicker, but it is still "flat" and two dimensional. I will have to download it and see if you can break up the model and extrude different areas to different heights. Fun for kids none the less.
