2nd the Qidi is a Replicator 1 Dual clone.

If I had to guess on the original problem the stepper driver for that stepper motor is bad.
You should have a spare that came with the machine.

I thought the issue was the firmware. I thought I could just reset the board but now I think I bricked it. Trying to figure out how to revive it.

What does the driver look like? Is that the thing with the limit switch on it?

It's the little circuit board with a small heatsink on it.
If you pull the bottom off and look at the main board you will see 5 there. One for each stepper motor.
The firmware will rarely be the problem it's much more likely to be a hardware failure.
What does the display say or look like?

Ah yes I see them. Thank you. Looking for my spare. Unfortunately I screwed around in rep g with firmware. The screen is completely blank after resetting, powering on and off and disconnecting and reconnecting connectors.

Qidi Techs don't respond well to firmware upgrades.
It may be possible using a USBASP programmer to reload the hex code back into the board.
I have done this on an older version of the Qidi. That thread is located here https://www.3dhubs.com/talk/thread/avatar-iv-qidi-tech
Be warned unless your good with this it's not for the faint of heart.
It may be easier to just order a new main board.

Yeah hence why I never attempted an upgrade. I wasn't even trying to upgrade this time but only reset the motherboard to default but somehow managed to brick it.

I'm actually reading that thread now, but I'm trying to use AVRDUDE over USB since I can connect via usb and don't have a programmer. Could you give any specific pointers on using AVRDUDE for this machine? I do have a qidi tech I.

DO have both parts of the programmer.

Just got the Toshiba FlashAir SD card working with the QIDI and S3D. Now, in S3D when I click "Save Toolpaths to Disk" it stores the files directly into the FlashAir SD card that's plugged into the card slot in the QIDI. Talk about fast and easy. No more SD card shuffle!

The FlashAir card was ~$20 on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Configuration was a bit of a pain, but a video that ServiceXP had made and posted on this website was a huge help. That video is in the "General 3D Printing Discussion", subtopic "Toshiba Flashair SD Card Mapped in Windows", thread post #57.

That's interesting, I'm using a FlashAir myself but I've just been using the modified web interface to do my transfers. Didn't know about being able to save to it directly from S3D, I'll have to have a look at that, wonder if it works on OS X.

    Okay just ordered those parts.

Do you know where I can get a replacement stepper motor driver? I don't think I have an extra one.
