3D Systems Aids in Hockey Champion's Spinal Surgery
In order to perform a successful spinal surgery on national sled hockey champion Mark Weimer, the Englewood, Colorado-based Mighty Oak Medical called on 3D Systems to help replicate the patient’s complex anatomy for surgical planning, instrumentation, and reference. Using their end-to-end digital manufacturing solutions for healthcare, 3D Systems was able to generate a 3D model with Weimer’s CT scan, which was utilized to produce surgical guides. 3D Systems then used their ProX 800 Stereolithography 3D printer to produce these surgical guides, along with a foot-long model of Weimer’s spine for reference. This is something great to see.
I have a spinal injury that has put me through 4 surgeries one of them being a double fusion. I have to have two more surgeries. I like seeing the advancements with things like this. My Dr told me that the more they have to fuse the more difficult it can be to match to the anatomy.
Very happy to see this.Editor in Chief
