Richard Hill, who has years of self-taught design experience, recently created his own UAV inspired by quadcopter designs and Apache helicopters. Hill started by downloading a Thingiverse design for a Hovership quadcopter, and set about designing his own 3D printable Apache-Quad, intended to have easily replaceable parts in the case of unscheduled landings. Using Autodesk 123D Design to create the files and his Flashforge Creator Dual to 3D print, Hill combined his parts with pre-ordered electronic components to build his machine. He's already had a few incidents with crashes and has been able to quickly replace parts and get the Apache-Quad right back in the air.
