I too am having this issue. Printing on Makerbot Z18 (I know, I know.) Can you please give me a link to that blog? Thanks!
I have been testing one of these for a while now, and I gotta say drastic improvements. Easily the best prints we've gotten from this printer since we've had it.
Hello, I too have this issue sometimes. We slowed our raft base speed to 3mm/s and that helped with the raft curling on our large prints. I will try the slower first layer raft speed. Please update...
Couldn't have said it better myself. I agree I think lack of understanding on how to properly operate a 3d printer and the whole process of design for printing etc is a major issue with 3d printing...
Interesting idea, the major problem i see being that as the filament spool gets used up the filament becomes a smaller diameter around the spool. So somehow you would need to constantly monitor the...
The Mankati Fullscale XT Plus seams like a really nice printer with some killer specs. Heck we could even buy like two or three of them for what we paid for the z18. Anyway, it looks to me like it...
EDIT (Sorry just realized the following question has already been answered): I agree with you on the D5S, plus being open means we could not do abs or nylon correct? Not that that alone is a deal...
Thanks for the suggestions guys! A lot of good looking printers here. I've bookmarked all of these and will be researching them over the next couple days.
And yes Estela we really do need the...
I found this thread, not sure if its the one you meant but it has some good replys.

Hi Guys,
Weve been having a lot of issues with out Makerbot 5th gen Z18. Imagine that!! Anyway I think were about ready to dump this thing and get a replacement printer for it. So I'm looking for...
The week of the printer being a p.i.t.a. This time I plugged my flash drive in mid print (which we've done many times before) and it shot up the error below. Had to totally cycle the power, and was...
I caught it in the act this time. It said it ran out of filament. It definitely had filament. It said it was ejecting the remaining filament then went to the same screen as above.
I also confirmed...
Hi Guys,
I finally just got our printer working semi reliably again after a bunch of small random issues. I queued up a 10 hour print overnight hoping that I would walk in this morning to a...
Oh wow that seems very impressive. Is this somethink that we would be able to run on our z18? It seems like even if it is it would take alot of modification to retrofit one of these.
Hi guys,
Im posting this here to hopefully get some more replies as opposed to the makerbot sub forum.
So I'm looking for some suggestions. We do a lot of very large prints on our Z18. We...
Do you mean how the first layers of the floor seem to have space in between them? I'm sure some pics would be helpful. Does the one I've attached look like what your referring to (ignore the leftover...
Tis very true. Depending on the function of our printed piece we will vary the amount of shells / amount of infill. Sometimes we just need the extra strength because of the design of the part or how...
Do you have your fan facing the right way? Seems a lot of people install their fan backwards and have this kinda issue. Fan should be installed with sticker facing inwards towards the heat sink.

Hi guys,
So I'm looking for some suggestions. We do a lot of very large prints on our Z18. We design aftermarket auto parts and use our printer all the time to verify fitment of the part on the...
The makerbot z18 has a 12" x 12" x 18" (30.5cm x 30.5cm x 45.8cm) build volume. They got alot of bad reviews after release but have really came a long way.
But its not within that price range.
We leave our on all the time and after it finishes and cools the extruder back down to ambient it will power most of the components off. As in the fans will not keep spinning, the extruder will not...
Because your using red pla? Jk, idk. Pictures sure would help.
Oh fantastic. Please let me know how good this is as were interested in trying some I think. I would be mostly interested in strength and printability (how long and hard hard it is to do complex...
We have an older u-print by dimension, not sure the model. It has really good print quality, and is very consistent and reliable. Our model is also a dual extruder with dissolvable support material...
