    ok so finally got around to trying to install this, and wont install under windows 8.1, even running compatability mode as win 7, then trying to run as admin still no go, surely there has to be a way to install it on a win 8.1 machine

    I don't have windows 8.1 sorry, and because its the 64bit version, the xp-mode virtual machine wont work .. damn.

    If it's telling you it won't install because it doesn't have a certificate, turn off 8.1's certificate enforcement. Instructions here:
