lol, the philosophers stone was actually an ultimate catalyst. The idea was you could uses it to make all your other reactions work while the 'stone' itself was untouched.
paladium and platinum come fairly close. I can't afford either :-)

Yes that is why you need one. That way all the magic alchemy happens.

maybe once I've cracked electroforming and the other projects on my list - I'll make the philosophers stone.

Probably do it with a hyrel, you could use the new spinner head to produce a molecular matrix and then embed your 'stone' ingredients in that.
    It's doable :-)
As soon as they give me a 30 hour day and an unlimited budget, I'll get right on it !

That will happen before you get the free sample you need from Hyrel.

It did occur to me that this is actually a really good use for ABS.

reason being the basic acetone and carbon powder paint should stick really well to abs as th acetone will particlly dissolve the abs and when it evaporates the carbon should be really well bonded to the model.

I still have a couple shelves filled with old abs filament.
Thinking it might be worth a try to make some copper plated jewellery.
probably just need some distilled water in the bucket of solution and I should be good to go :-)

There's also a recipe for a neutral plating solution that plates with whatever metal you're using as the cathode (anode ?) one of them anyway :-)
So maybe get a chunk of nickel as well.

I wish I'd a seen this when I was working with a fellow trying to make this work.
He was successful plating copper on PLA.

it's not that hard, but with pla you do either need to add some abs to the acetone carbon slurry - or buy the expensive coating 'paint'.

Kicked my brain into gear, might have ago coating with aluminium. It's a shiny silver metal that doesn't tarnish easily. Plus I can get as much scrap as I like :-)

    copper jewellery will go green.

Now to track down the neutral coating solutiion recipe.
