While most of us consider Materialise Mimics to be a software created to look at the inner anatomy of humans, one scientist at the University of Edinburgh has made great headway in using the 3D software to examine dinosaurs such as the Tyrannosaurus rex. With 3D scanning and 3D printing, researchers are able to have much greater access to studying the bones which are replicated in fine detail. The skull is ripe with information, offering a look at the cavity itself, the sinuses, ears, and more—all of which helped to identify a smaller cousin of the Tyrannosaurus rex.
