Earlier this year, a Sydney, Australia-based model designer named Bernard Dohnt created a 1:72 scale replica of the historic Titanic passenger ship with the use of 3D printing technology. Upon completion of this original model, Dohnt decided to re-design the replica into a much more ambitious project, a functional 1:24 prototype model. Using a mixture of 3D printing, laser cutting, and other traditional manufacturing methods, the model designer is now in the midst of constructing the Titanic replica. In order to help complete the ambitious project, Dohnt has launched a Kickstarter campaign to help him get his functional prototype, which will be equipped with live steam engines, finished and into the water.
