Extruders for a Makerbot Replicator 2 - Can other brand parts work?
Hi, my best friends Replicator 2 recently broke. Does anyone know if he would be able to buy extruders which are not specifically made for the Replicator (or other Makerbot) printers and use them on his printer to replace the broken extruder that he has, or does it have to be a part made specifically for the Replicator 2? If so, where would he find one? Does Makerbot sell them?

My makerbot broke down like three times and makerbot sent new extruders. But if you have a clog (common problem with mine so far), you just need to look online for a extruder tip that has 0.4mm nozzle and a 1.75 ID and a dia. that fits into the makerbot heatblock mount. something like 8mm.

Yes, you can use various extruders with the replicator. Just have to get the right size for the connection. I know a few people who use their own extruder instead of the factory one.
