3D Printed Rings
I've been playing lately with modeling and 3D printing jewelry. I am not usually wearing rings, but it seems I enjoy designing them...
Ring 1
Ring 2
Ring 3
(I don't know why adding attachments doesn't work)

Programs: Rhino & Grashopper
Printer used: Form1+ and Form 2
I also decided to add two of the rings for Myminifactory contest so they can be downloaded from here:

07-25-2016, 09:08 AM #3Have you made any rings from castings that you printed with the printer.
I think there are some people making cast to make molds for making metal rings.
Each one was thr original print as well as the metal casting.

How did she get the metal ring out of the casting?

ask :-)
But I would say, cast it in metal and clean it up. You know, the usual way.

I have seen people mill cast with the X-carve from casting material but not a 3d printer.

Very cool stuff.
I took a basic jewelry class in high school, did a little bit of casting, brazing, stone setting, etc. I never really had the desire to go back to it though.

She's printing the ring as a positive model, not a mold. (No, you can't pour hot metal into a plastic mold.) But using a version of the very old lost-wax process, she can pour a plaster-silica material all around the model, bake it in a kiln until the plastic vaporizes, and fill the resulting cavity with metal.

Sounds cool. Interesting. I have seen people make a sand mold for clay potery.
Do you have pictures of the steps used to make things this way.
I might want to give it a try sometime
