Tech Wars -- 3D Printing Vs. CNC

In an editorial written for the Smallcap Network, author James Brumley declares the end of the 3D printing revolution and the emergence of CNC technologies from among the ashes. His idea is that while a few companies have taken an interest in 3D printing, it was really more of a novelty than a revolution and that its time has come and gone. Instead, Brumley argues that CNC machining is stronger than ever and is the technology with true staying power when it comes to advanced manufacturing. It's horses for courses. There are things a CNC machine can do that 3D printers cannot, and vice versa. The trick is to know when to use which technology for what projects. I've been a proponent of CNC machining for a long time, but it never got the hype that 3D printing has garnered. It was inevitable that people who've been sold on the idea that 3D printing was the one solution to every problem in making things would eventually get disillusioned with that and realize that there are other approaches that are equally valid, and can be better-suited to a particular need.
