    Software on cropping STL files

    Hi guys,
I am relatively new to all this but am trying as a first attempt, to 3D print my sisters 3D baby scan.

So I managed to convert the jpg file to an STL using embossify.com.
The issue I am having is surrounding the baby face, the corners are raised to same level as the face.

I have tried looking all over for software that will allow me to reduce that specific area or even crop the baby face away from it but to no avail.

Is there any advice anyone can pass over to me on this?

Try to use NETFAB or Meshlab. AS far as I know it allows you to cut stl files into multiples.

Meshmixer allows you to do that as well.

Geomagic Design allows you to import and edit stl files.

Easier would be to use ZSurf4. Convert your jpg to bmp, import into ZSurf4, create heightmap and export as iges. Much easier to edit.

Iges is a very common file type. Much better to work with than stl.

Yeah, iges has the actual surfaces defined so you can use it in an engineering soft. STL is a nightmare to re-use since the surfaces are approximated and thus not usable in an engineering tool.

Geomagic Sculpt might be worth trying for modifying your STLs. I think it would work more easily than the design software.
