Bre Pettis Launches 'Bold Machines' Innovation Workshop
Bre Pettis and team today launched the Innovation Workshop that he stepped down to start up for Stratasys. It is called Bold Machines and they already have started on their first project, which is to create a 3D printed feature film called Margo. They will be releasing new characters each week onto Thingiverse for anyone to download and print at home. Then at the end, they will release a movie based around these characters. Let me guess... The community does all the innovation, design and development work... And then Bold Machines patents it to keep anybody else from using the work???
I'm a little too young to be this cynical... But my guess is they have a 'license agreement' to participate in this effort. And that agreement says they own everything?
Perhaps it would be good to take this story one level deeper and see if that assertion is true???? And if it is true... It might be fun to have Bre Pettris come here to answer questions from the community!Last edited by Roxy; 10-11-2014 at 01:09 PM.

Pettis and company have just announced a new character for 'Margo'. Her dog named Eddie is now available for download if you wish to 3D print him out in one piece on a MakerBot Replicator Z18 3D printer. More details here: http://3dprint.com/19221/bold-machines-dog-eddie/
Below is a picture of Eddie after being 3D printed and then painted:

No, they have not enabled remixes on any of their models, therefore I will not print them.
I have re-mixed all of their figures with multiple poses for stop animation but I can't release them, it blows chunks. So yeah, won't be printing them until that remix option is there.Hex3D - 3D Printing and Design http://www.hex3d.com

It's been months since there's been any real news from Bold Machines. Is it, for all intents and purposes, dead?

Nope, not dead. I met Robert Steiner, General Manager of Bold Machines a few days ago and he said there is a ton in the pipeline. The company is basically just Pettis Steiner and another individual, who work with artists to create amazing things.
This Galactica Lamp is one of them which was just unveiled today:

Anyone else more interested in seeing the DeLorean than the shade in the animation?
