I think i'm stupid-Kapton Tape
So I get the sticky side goes up, but how the heck are you supposed to secure the tape to the print bed??

Sticky side down, your print sticks to it. Just get your temps right (and if you like other additives, do that as well depending on what you're extruding)...

WOW....i feel even dumber now!! thanks for the help......so the print is going to stick to the smooth/slippery side? is it heat activated?

And you will eventually get bubble when you tried to tape the kapton on the bed.
Use kitchen soap and water.
If you need more help, google kaptop and soap for 3D printing.

Lack of knowledge is not "dumb" it is merely something you have not found out.
The only way to find out is either to experience it or ask someone else.
The easiest of those is to ask which is what you did.
