Star Wars Fan 3D Models Printable Ball Droid
If you are a Star Wars fan then this was a very exciting week for you. The franchise, now owned by Disney released the very first preview for the latest Star Wars Film, Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens. In the preview there was a tiny little robot referred to as the Ball Droid. Within hours of the preview's release someone has already created a 3D printable model of Ball Droid. More details on the model, and where you can download it for free can be found here: http://3dprint.com/27766/star-wars-ball-droid-3d-print/
Check out the GIF of Ball Droid in action below. Let us know if you have 3d printed it:

That model is so far being any kind of 3d printable. I hate that if I do spend the time to make it printable this person's hacked-but-looks-good attempt is going to get all the credit.
Modeling is not the same as modeling for 3d printing.

lol yeah.
He's created the model full size !
I'm going to have a go at flattening the base so it stand sup and printing it vertical.
And obviously making it a helluva lot smaller.
Actually I might leave it spherical and print a stand for it.

Printed a ping pong ball version last night. You can just about make out the markings - needs to be a bit bigger, say maybe tennis ball sized.
As long as you rotate it so the head is at the top - it prints without any issues.
I actually left it spherical and stuck a raft underneath. Surprisingly it didn't fall over during printing :-)
All adjustments were made within makerware.
Now i just need to print a larger one and find someone to paint it ;-).
some time later and back in my workshop...
Got one a little smaller than a tennis ball printing. Embedded a small cube at the base for easier printing.
So I'm printing this in white pla. And somewhere in here, I've got a pack of coloured marker pens.
Sooooo, when it's done I'll have a go at colouring in the lines. haven't done any colouring in since i was a wee sprog.
What's the bet I really suck at it now :-)
We'll all find out - later !Last edited by curious aardvark; 12-03-2014 at 03:12 PM.

Here's the model.
Haven't attacked it with pens yet. You should be able to make out the markings.

All i did was stand it on end and give it a better base to start from. But I also printed a small one as is, with a raft to give the sphere base a little more to work with. No netfabb, just the downloaded /stl file.
It's as fully a printable a model as I've ever downloaded.

I think considering he had to go off limited still frames he didn't do too bad a job, and coming from someone who has made a fair few printable starwars props now... sometimes it's not as easy as it looks.
I am nearing about 30,000 downloads for my star wars stuff combined and I don't get an interview
