Although I can't find any files for the parts to download anywhere.
You're still going to need a screen and speakers etc. But should be less than $200.
I do have a raspberry pi that I have bugger all use for.
This and the portabe console project are definitely good ideas.
have to admit this looks a lot simpler than the portable console. But just as functional.
And no, if I ever make one it probably won't get painted, or varnished. Decals can be downloaded and printed so I'd probably do that.
But unless you can print the bits yourself - it's too much money.
Plus adafruit sell something similiar - including all the electronics for $120 Just add the r-pi.
