3D Printed Laptop - The Pi-Top
We have been seeing quite the intersection between 3D printing and the Raspberry Pi mini computer. People are making all sorts of incredible electronics. The most recent is the 3D printed laptop, called the Pi-Top. A team of individuals have 3D printed the shell of the device in 3 parts, and then used Raspberry Pi to complete it. The team expects to soon launch a project on Kickstarter to raise money to sell the Pi-Top as a kit. More details on this Raspberry Pi project can be found here: http://3dprint.com/15092/pi-top-3d-print-laptop/
Below is a picture of the completed 3D Printed Pi-Top. What do you think?

A merge/collaboration between this and the One Laptop Per Child program could be very interesting.

Hi All - Pi-Top Team here!
It's amazing to see so many people interested in Pi-Top - we have been working over the last 8 months to develop the concept and have been getting feedback from students and the maker community. It has come a long way since the start, we will continue to post updates on the project here and keep an eye out for posts in this thread so feel free to get in touch with us on this forum.
Here is a picture of our latest 3D printed case prototype - details on settings and support structures will be posted next week.
We are all very excited, and will be posting two large updates next week!
Thanks all,
Jesse, Ryan & Pi-Top Team

So cool! Can't wait to share this with my students tomorrow. These kinds of things make students so excited about learning and has made my job much easier and enjoyable! Great work, I will definitely be a backer!

Since the Pi-Top debuted back in September, it has already seen improvements and a successful Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign. Now, just a few months later, another remake of the 3D printable laptop is underway. Version 3 of the Pi-Top will see improvements in the laptop's functionality and design, including being 30% thinner than the already sleek Version 2. On the functionality side, a larger trackpad has been added, featuring integrated cantilever spring mouse buttons to allow for left- and right-clicking. These soon-to-be-released kits will run $299 with included Raspberry Pi board, or $264.99 without the board. Find out more about the updates in the full article: http://3dprint.com/45158/pi-top-version-3/
Below is a comparison with the smaller, sleeker Pi-Top next to a previous iteration:

Is the kit less if you print the case yourself?
