I invested in FDM machines to manufacture a widget and sell in retail.
That went great and I sell everyday.
But on a daily basis I quick print items for around the house - knobs, fixes etc.
Thingiverse, Tinkercad, Meshmix, Meshlab, Blender, Simply3D, Makerware.

Until I learn how to create my own 3D models, I've been using Thingiverse and for the most part its fantastic. I don't have a Makerbot so it's hard to get the settings right sometimes, but having pre-made models does help a lot.

I create parts for my video equipment including my Nikon 5100, Sony fs100 and especially my GoPro. Also I print a lot of upgrades to my quadcopter and hexcopter.

For me, it's mostly decorative/toy prints, but making useful items for the office is pretty sweet (e.g., a desktop organizer).

For me it's mostly decorative parts but the most useful thing I ever printed was a prosthetic:IMG_20140812_184706[1].jpg
