Emergency Stop - Hit the big RED Button
Sometimes sh!t happens while you are printing and the best thing to do is to stop everything immediately. The best way to do this is to install a BIG RED BUTTON, like this:
This can be placed between your 12V power supply and your RAMPS board. It will cut the power to your steppers, heaters and fans if an emergency occurs.

Snicker... Snicker... I'm a few months ahead of you! Check out the first picture in:

See those RED buttons? The larger, round button goes to the Reset pin of my PrintrBoard. And the little, recessed one gets held down during Reset to force the PrintrBoard into firmware upload mode.
And, unfortunately... I've used those buttons way too many times while debugging firmware!Last edited by Roxy; 06-03-2014 at 07:05 AM.

You might want to produce a molly guard for said button.

I don't have a Molly to guard against! I do have a cat that walks on my keyboard but he doesn't have any interest in the printer even when it is going.
The real issue is speed. When I need to press that button, I don't have an extra 1/2 second to 'activate' the switch. I have my heated bed spring mounted even though everybody says that hurts accuracy because I need the extra time to get to the switch when things go sideways.
So... No Molly Guard for me!!!

When size matters - http://www.adafruit.com/products/1185
Contacts close when the button is pressed, so you'd have to wire this to a relay or some other paraphernalia to use as a power switch.
