3D Printed Fruit, Apples, Pears, Etc

This is an almost unbelievable story until you are able to wrap your head around the technology involved and the process of spherification. Microsoft has teamed with a company called Dovetailed to create a method of 3D printing fruit. They use spherification to turn fruit juice and puree into tiny balls which resemble caviar. Somehow or other they are able to print these balls from a machine, not yet revealed, and create fruit. The crazy thing is that anyone will be able to customize their 'fruit' by changing the number of given balls of a particular flavor. Supposedly they are unveiling the technology behind it all today in Cambridge. More details on this crazy new 3D printing process can be found here: http://3dprint.com/4314/3d-printed-fruit-microsoft/ . Here is an example of apple juice which has been solidified via spherification:

Not really fruit, but a cool idea. Seems like the media has jumped all over this, and its really not all that new of a technology.
