Surgeons in South Korea have successfully 3D printed a pelvic implant for a teenage girl who had been suffering from a form of malignant bone cancer. The team decided to turn to 3D printing because of the girls young age, as they wanted to preserve the full function of her pelvic region. The procedure took just 6 hours to complete and the girl was up and walking in just one week. This is compared to the 8-9 hours such a surgery would take had the implant not been customized via 3D printing, and the month of recovery that patients usually require before walking on their own.
