Researchers from Penn State University have sourced the latest 3D printing material from a fairly unlikely sector -- the sea. A protein complex found in squids is proving to be a blueprint toward a thermoplastic material that can create complex geometrical forms. Led by Professor Melik Demirel, the team is looking into squid ring teeth (SRT) proteins. This can lead to a more eco-friendly source for thermoplastics that can be utilized in uses as advanced as medical and cosmetic applications.
