yeah I have mine sitting in a box here, I do have 1 roll of 3mm filament I could use, but I would literally be rebuilding the extruder to use one roll of filament, the 3mm is so stiff!! I dont know how people work with it.
Just get a J-head or similar extruder, I buy alot of my stuff of LearCNC, they are not cheap but they are reliable, aussie stock too.

If you are going to build your own extruder, I do recommend getting a few things..

They also sell a hexagon, which is the one I got but it's $70 and a bit overkill, I wouldnt say its all that much better than the merlin.

Try and get one with the offset between 24mm and 25mm, that seems to be the standard for Geared extruders these days.
