Researchers at Louisiana Tech University are using affordable 3D printers such a a MakerBot Replicator 2 to 3D print implants with a custom filament they have created. The filaments are made to break down within the human body, slowing releasing drugs which they are infused with. The research should lead to much more efficient treatments of cancers as well as infections, as chemotherapy drugs and antibiotics can easily be infused into them.
