Research from Penn State, led by Dr. Shizhuo (Stuart) Yin, and written in conjunction with the Army Research Laboratory, offers a technological advance that promises to speed scanning and printing times. This advance in high-speed beam-scanning devices offers the potential to speed 2D and 3D printing by up to one thousand times, as scanning speeds move from the range of microseconds up to nanoseconds. Dr. Yin noted that a 20,000-page 2D print job would take just one minute, while a one-hour 3D print job could be cut down to just seconds.
