Christian Herman's Light-Up Pencil Grip began as a science fair project after the 13-year-old polled his teachers to find out what the main challenges were that his classmates faced in their studies. When the teachers told him that the major problem was illegible handwriting? Herman went to work conducting a series of tests with students to confirm the problem. He created, essentially, a 3D printed sleeve that fits over a pencil, including a small flashlight and grooves to guide the finger position for writers. If the penmanship student is gripping the device and the pencil correctly, the flashlight lights up to let them know. The project came to life thanks to the 3D printing know-how at Florida Polytechnic University, and is now live on Kickstarter. You can read the whole story here:
