Dr. Vishal Rao, a head and neck surgeon in India, recently treated a patient who was having facial reconstruction surgery several years after having a tumor removed from his left upper jaw. The surgery to remove the cancer had left him with difficulties in swallowing and speaking as well as low self esteem. The surgical team prepared a 3D model of the area to be addressed with the surgery. The model, made by Osteo3D, was then used not only as a study aid to prepare for the surgery, but during the surgery itself to facilitate measurements and reduce the time during which the blood supply had to be cut off.
