UK researchers, in looking for a solution to the amount of time and anxiety spent in the process for producing radiotherapy molds, have produced a study to see if would be feasible to 3D print the molds for patients, using CT scan or MRI data to produce the molds directly without having to actually involve the patient in the construction of the mold. It was concluded that the molds could indeed be 3D printed and that they would not affect the dosage of radiotherapy in any substantial way. The only concern was that it would be a bit more expensive than conventional methods, but with the costs of 3D printing and 3D printing materials coming down consistently, they did not see this as a true hindrance.
