Yes, it is pre-loaded into a cartridge that you just drop into the printer, put the filament through a drive and close the door. While the price per cartridge does not look too bad, it only has 600 grams per cartridge. Those of us who print a lot know that means a lot of cartridges.

Well, they seem to have been off a month originally. News just broke that this printer is headed to the US via amazon preorder:

Americans have been waiting for the da vinci for a while. The Amazon pre-order page can be found here:

Although it uses "proprietary" cartridges, it is just 1.75mm filament. I don't see what is to stop you from using any spool on the outside and feeding it into the machine.

I think 600g is the weight of the cartdrige, 300g the amount of filament inside; it makes sense since I think it would be very difficult to squeeze 600g worth of filament in a cartdrige of that size.
Having said that, I'd need a lobotomy before I buy a printer (2D or 3D) that uses cartdriges ever again.

Because there is so much confusion about how much filament is in a cartridge I contacted xyzprinting. Their response:
Hi Alex,
The free filament shipping with the printer is 300g.
The regular filament cartridge is $28/600g.
Regards,
Vinson

I now have an XYZprinting Da Vinci printer and the quality of the printer is good but the software is appalling. Their latest firmware upgrade made the print quality go from bad to unuseable. If you get one get ready to throw away a lot of plastic. The printer in its current form and firmware is absolutely useless unless you are a hacker and then it is just bad. Their slicer is the worst piece of software in the 3D universe. Look at youtube and see what some guys have to do to get even a so so print out of it. The people that like it have very little experience with 3D printers I suspect.
