On November 3, Sigma Labs announced that they had been awarded a Phase II DARPA contract with Honeywell Aerospace. The Phase I portion of the contract was fulfilled earlier in 2014. Looking forward, work is expected to begin on Phase II from the last quarter of 2014 to the middle of 2016. The goals of the award are to better predict the behaviors of metal in additive manufacturing technologies. Metal 3D printing has a long way to go, but with a $0.5 million contract from DARPA, Sigma Labs is up to the challenge of exploring more.
