open source build size and adaptability to use diffrent filaments, interchangeable extruder heads ,maybe to just snap in and snap out new heads.able to print without computer hooked to printer . portability.keep it simple like delta printers , seem that they would be easier to adapt to making a bigger print area with a minimum of fuss.

build volume and print quality

For me it is all about build volume and price. Everything else is nice to haves that I would use to differentiate printers with same volume and price.
The only other metric I would say is I would never consider a printer that uses proprietary filament.

open to multiple filaments/filament mfg. large build volume, fairly decent layer resolution (tweaking to get there is fine just as long as its possible)

no DRM filament, easy maintenance, and acceptance of a wide variety of filaments! no ABS-only nonsense.
