Weird message display?
Just registered. I’m baffled why the first threads I’ve looked at all have the same serious display problem. The initial post is confined to a narrow strip, about 1 cm wide, the rest of the message area being empty. Yet the replies are all formatted normally!

Here's a screenshot:

HOWEVER...it seems to be down to Waterfox & Firefox, because all posts look OK in Chrome.

So I guess that's a No, and I'm the only one getting this problem?

I didn't see a problem. Maybe edit the pic with an arrow.

Thanks both. Here's an example of what I see when viewing the post I made a few minutes ago.

It's not just you, and it's been that way for a couple of years now. On the first and last posts on any given page, a block of space is reserved, most likely for the potential insertion of ad space. The reserved space is fixed. If you shrink the width of your window pane down, you can actually get down to no text actually being displayed.
Options include avoiding accessing the forum on devices with a small screen and running with as small of a font as you can tolerate.
EDIT: And yes, updating a post does eliminate the reserved white space. As you said, go figure.

Thanks printbus, that explains it at last. Incredible that such a serious flaw remains unfixed for so long.Reading your post with my iPad in portrait mode, the text was a 3-character strip! Rather better in landscape. PITA for us tablet users.

I occasionally get it on my phone.
And yeah, it's seriously annoying.
No idea what it's down to. I've used pretty much every browser and usually have no issues.
Firefox is my default, but I use chrome on the phone and safari on the old ipad.
I'm more inclined to think it's something on the forum than any particular browser as it's fairly intermittent. .
Please explain to me how to...
