Two Men Receive 3D Printed Titanium Jaw Implants

We have seen so many amazing uses of 3D printing within the medical field. Even last year we saw the use of the technology to 3D print a titanium Jaw for an 83 year old women. Here we are a year later and the second and third ever 3D printed jaw implants have been implanted into two men who had battled cancer in the past, living in South Africa. The procedures were overwhelming successes, and actually saved quite a bit of money. More details can be found here: http://3dprint.com/10210/3d-printed-jaw-south-africa/

Check out the image below. On the left if the 3D printed Jaw, while on the right you will find a replica of one of the patients deformed jaw.

This is absolutely amazing. Titanium has been invaluable in medical applications for years (http://blog.titaniumprocessingcenter...n-medical.html), but to see it used in such an innovative and COST EFFECTIVE way is just beautiful. I'm guessing that this is just the beginning in the field of printed titanium replacement parts.
