New 400x400x300 Printer
1p.jpg2p.jpg3p.jpg4p.jpg
Hi
Just finished building my new printer.
Its seams ok when testing and adjusting single axels, but when working all together it starts to fai some random motor,
I'm using a total of 8 nema motors:
4 on Z axel
2 on y axel
1 on x axel
1 for extruder
Heated bed uses 220v with a SSR
Extruder uses a separeted 12v power supy wtih a SSR
I'm using a 12V 20A power suply, but for the sinthoms it seams that i'm low on power.
Can i get your feedback?

well given that my 350mm heatpad will drawer 27 amps.
As you'v got a 400mm x 400 plate. I'd say yes, not enough power.
Also nema 17 moptors draw around 1.7 amps. So 8x1.7 is only 13.6
(reads post again) is the heat pad attached directly to the mains or via the main psu ?
Have a look at led lighting power supplies.
I got a 600watt 50 amp one for £15 :-)
Same units but much cheaper if they think you're fitting led lighting rather than building a 3d printer

Also... with 4 motors on the Z-Axis, how are you driving them? Most stepper motor driver chips can't even power a single motor at full power. With 4 of them the Z-Axis would be very weak if all powered by the same chip.

Finally it's done.
To duplicate the ports of z and y motor used DuoWeiSi expansion boards made simple Y cables to get enable, diretion, step and 5 volts from rumba, and seperate power suply for these motors.
