I thought this was an incredibly awesome use of 3D printing. This is the perfect application for the up and coming technology. Online Jeweler, Brilliance, allows people to try on 3d printer versions of their ring so that they can get an idea of how it will actually look once they order it from their online store.

If you have a 3D printer at home you can simply downlowd the design, size and gemstone size you wish, print it out, and try it on. Customer are able to see what a certain type of ring, with a certain size gemstone would look like on their finger. If you don't have a 3D printer, then don't panic, Brilliance will mail you 3d printed samples to your doorstep. The ones they mail are printed out of a sanstone material.

"Although everyone thinks they would want a 2-carat diamond ring, sometimes it would look funny if the person's fingers are too thin," Shai Barel, director of strategic partnerships for Brilliance, tells CNET. "The same is true with the shape of the ring. A 1-carat round-cut diamond looks bigger than a 1-carat in any other shape. Providing customers with the ability to see and feel what they would like to purchase is golden."
