Researchers from Northwestern University have created a new type of 3D printed bone that they see offering much greater potential than others. In the past, such fabricated materials have been too brittle, difficult to work with, and too expensive to allow for realistic application. Now, with their hyperelastic material, it would seem that the researchers have overcome these challenges, creating a bio-ink that offers a much more successful implant thanks to several solvents that allow it to be printed easily at room temperature. They’ve had success with in experiments with animals so far and are looking toward human trials, along with FDA approval.
