As the winners are being announced for the America Makes 2016 Additive Manufacturing Challenge for Small Businesses, we’ve received word that InfraTrac is one of the five lucky startups. Winning with their tamper-proof intellectual property protection system, it certainly appears that this company has the potential to make a huge difference in the 3D printing industry as copyrighting and authenticating become more and more of an issue. A ‘signature’ is placed via a fingerprint within the layers of a 3D print. This can be seen with a handheld spectrometer as the 3D printed product moves down the supply chain. As reward for their win, InfraTrac will receive a stipend from the competition which was sponsored by America Makes, Penn State University, and the Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
