3D Printing Marketplace Gambody Launches Tutorial on Painting 3D Gaming Models

The 3D printing marketplace Gambody has just launched their new video series on their YouTube channel, which will show their community how to properly paint their favorite 3D printed video game models. The first tutorial focuses on their 3D model of Kratos, the protagonist from the popular game God of War, which they released the STL files for back in March. The video showcases how to paint the 3D model with simple acrylic paints and white primer, and the final outcome looks as if Kratos just walked right out of your television screen. When do they do the workshop telling us how to get away with profiting from straight-up theft?

That Catapult BattleMech they're selling for like thirty bucks? They ripped the model straight from the damn game, edited it a little, even slapped their logo on it, and are selling it...not even prints of it, just the damn file, which is literally somebody else's work!

I sure as hell know PGI didn't grant them the rights to do that, because PGI doesn't have those rights to grant. The BattleTech/MechWarrior rights are a complete bowl of spaghetti, and even the people currently 'in charge' of the franchises (Catalyst Game Labs, and Piranha Games Inc.) pretty much just have whatever rights they need to continue functioning...with Topps and Microsoft (If I'm not mistaken) retaining a lot of rights because somebody apparently hired their contract lawyers straight from hell. (Not even Harebrained Schemes has merchandising rights to the BattleTech universe, despite the fact that it's run by the creators of BattleTech.)

Stuff like this is why we can't have nice things. If somebody wants to rip BattleMechs out of MWO and put them on thingiverse for personal use, that's fine-ish... But these jagoffs make a habit of selling models they rip out of games for prices that start to compete with that of the actual games, devs are going to start storing game assets in formats we can't use and then we're all screwed. No more 3D prints, no more fanart, nothing.
