Last year, a court battle went on between two companies that design cheerleading uniforms, with one company accusing the other of stealing its design. The court ultimately ruled in favor of the plaintiff, but the case gained a lot of attention in how it dealt with copyright issues. Shapeways, which, as a 3D model marketplace, deals with intellectual property issues all the time, followed the case closely and now, along with several other organizations, has asked the Supreme Court to choose one universal test for determining what aspects of an item can be protected by copyright.
