Fictiv is not only just formally launching their company, a manufacturing platform for 3D printing based in San Francisco, but they are also announcing that they will be adding CNC machining capabilities to their lineup. With an emphasis on giving small businesses access to rapid prototyping in either 3D printing or CNC machining, Fictiv’s talent is in providing quality and speed as they connect users with the appropriate technology. It sounds like they want to become the Uber of prototyping. But the promise of a one-day turnaround sounds over-optimistic. Usually it takes a day or so just to make sure what the customer wants, and that what you propose to do for them is really the right thing. Maybe the idea is to give them something right away, and have that conversation later, once they've seen what happened the first time.

D: The service model is distributed, so the order is automatically scheduled through a network of vetted vendors so that the order goes to the machinist with the capacity and optimal machine for the job.
