Fictiv Launches Company, Adds CNC Capabilities Along with 3D Printing

Fictiv is not only just formally launching their company, a manufacturing platform for 3D printing based in San Francisco, but they are also announcing that they will be adding CNC machining capabilities to their lineup. With an emphasis on giving small businesses access to rapid prototyping in either 3D printing or CNC machining, Fictiv’s talent is in providing quality and speed as they connect users with the appropriate technology. Referring to this as a ‘distributed approach,’ local printing ecosystems are supported and machines do not sit idle. Read more at 3DPrint.com: https://3dprint.com/139097/fictivs-3...cnc-machining/

It sounds like they want to become the Uber of prototyping. But the promise of a one-day turnaround sounds over-optimistic. Usually it takes a day or so just to make sure what the customer wants, and that what you propose to do for them is really the right thing. Maybe the idea is to give them something right away, and have that conversation later, once they've seen what happened the first time.

    Hi Andrew,
There is a number of ways that we are able to promise the one-day turnaround.
A: After a user had uploaded a part there is complete transparency over material selection and pricing. In the past, this process was done manually which obv is quite time-consuming.
B: Our DFM feedback gives almost instant feedback on whether the part is machinable or not and how to fix it.
C: The customer service reps are prototype engineers and can give honest expert advice instantly to help speed the decision process.
D: The service model is distributed, so the order is automatically scheduled through a network of vetted vendors so that the order goes to the machinist with the capacity and optimal machine for the job.

I hope this helps give some color to the process. If you'd like to try it out for yourself, shoot us an email to team(at)fictiv(dot)com and we will be happy to offer a discount on your first order.

    Cheers,

    Dave
